James 3 addresses our manner of speaking. Do study it that you may profit from it. One of the best ways to stop a bad habit is do the opposite. Be sure to say the good. I do not know of one person that gets tired of hearing good words said to them. This proper communication between people promotes a bond of understanding and unity and mutual respect. Repetition in doing good replaces the bad. The result is being in harmony with God and others. Peaceful understanding, adding to one another. Health.
While in prayer for hurting people recently, my mind went to how many are dealing with inner pain and mental torment, because of careless and harsh words spoken to or about them. Some have even gotten sick in their distress, hurt and despair. Who hasn't been affected by words? Yea and nay? Be it that they were said by us; or, be it that they were said to us. Once words leave our mouth, they cannot be recalled. They are 'out there' and so are the effects of them. They come back in replay over and over. Either they bless, comfort, uplift and promote well-being and happiness; or, they gnaw at the gut, prey on the mind, hurt...over and over again. Some things ~ and some people ~ we have to just 'throw up to the Lord' and leave Him to take what is too hard or hurtful for us to deal with. To err is human; to forgive is Divine.
Not only do our words affect others, so also, what is in our spirit, tone of voice and facial expression. Being pleasant and kind is tantamount to the health of all. Our words are seeds that cause like-harvest to be reaped.
Proverbs 16: 23, 24
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth,
and addeth learning to his lips.
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb,
sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
If we don't want our spouse, children, siblings, parents, friends, etc., to look at their self as a loser, we won't call them one. If we want them to see the good in their self, we point those things out, speak of those things, building their self-esteem. People look in the mirror, seeing their self by what someone they care about said to them. They make decisions, and think of their self and their abilities, according to the kind of words sown in them. It is important....to say...the good words to one another. It is health and healing for all involved. Every one of us needs to see the good in our self....and thank God we are especially and uniquely our self, as God has made us. He has a plan for each, and like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. It is alright to be different; God's design made us so. Just like our body. There are many different parts to it, but all of the members are needed to function healthily together and to be whole. We feel the effects if one or more parts are not actively engaged. Walk with me now a bit, through some of the texts Father God has outlined on this very important matter.
1 Peter 1: 15 But as He which hath called you is Holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.
Romans 16: 17, 18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Psalms 50: 23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the Salvation of God.
Colossians 4: 5, 6 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Hebrews 13: 5 ~ 8 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the Word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and Forever.
1 Timothy 4: 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in Word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Ephesians 4: 29, 31 and 32 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, (build and strengthen spiritually and morally) that it may minister grace unto the hearers...Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Titus 2: 7, 8 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
2 Peter 3: 9 ~ 12 The Lord is not slack concerning His Promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to Repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the Heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the Heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Ephesians 4: 21 ~ 25 If so be that ye have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the Truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

We all deal with this thing called our mouth. It is easier, I find, to speak properly...when we keep the inside of us clean where Christ lives. For whatever is inside our spirit and heart, is what will come up out of us to others. Yes, we are made to see our self in many things, and this is one more area. Praise The Lord. Think before we speak. Think love thoughts...kindness, golden rule. And, in closing,
Jude 1: 14 ~ 16 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, The Lord cometh with ten thousands of His saints, To Execute Judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
1 Peter 3: 8 ~ 18 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
For the Eyes of The Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But Sanctify The Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:...
